The portrait on this medal is our own photograph of the venerable image of Blessed Pierina, taken at the Institute of the Daughters of the Immaculate Conception in Rome — the place where her sacred remains are venerated by pilgrims today. Preserved under a jeweled epoxy resin dome, this is a devotional keepsake unlike any other on the market.
WHO IS BLESSED PIERINA?
Born in Milan in 1890, Sr. Maria Pierina received a series of apparitions from Jesus and the Blessed Virgin Mary between 1936 and 1938. Our Lady appeared to her holding a scapula. On one side bore a replica of the Holy Face image from the Shroud of Turin and an inscription based on Psalm 66:2: “Illumina, Domine, vultum tuum super nos”, translated as: “May, O Lord, the light of Thy countenance shine upon us” . On the other side, there is an image of a radiant Sacred Host, the monogram of the Holy Name (“IHS”), and the inscription “Mane nobiscum, Domine” translated as: “Stay with us, O Lord” .
“I will offer graces without measure to all who wear this scapular and, on Tuesdays, gaze with love upon My Holy Face.” Our Lady assured Pierina the same graces from the scapular would apply to the medal.
She was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI in 2010. Her feast day is July 26.
