St. Veronica

Feast Day – July 12

St. Veronica (also known as St. Berenice) is most known for the sixth station of the cross – Veronica wiping the face of Jesus. This brave act was a gesture of kindness during the most horrific event in human history. The appearance of Jesus’ features on Veronica’s veil is a miracle in itself, and this gift to humanity is present even today. The veil is housed in St. Peter’s Basilica, and is brought out for veneration on Passiontide Sunday. Just as the mass is a continuation of Jesus’ sacrifice, the consolation Veronica provided is continued today in the veneration of His Holy Face.

Prayer to Saint Veronica

St. Veronica, you gave Christ a towel on His way to Cavalry which He used to wipe the Precious Blood from His Holy Face. In return for this great act of kindness He left you His most Holy image on the towel. Pray for us to Our Lord that His Holy Face may be imprinted on our hearts so that we may be always be mindful of the Passion and Death of Our lord Jesus Christ, through the same Christ our Lord, Amen.
